Submarine exercises at extreme depths have begun in the Barents and Norwegian Seas. This was reported on Friday, July 2, by the press service of the Northern Fleet.
"The submariners of the Northern Fleet have started conducting a special exercise to test the systems and weapons of submarines in the deep-water areas of the Barents and Norwegian Seas," the statement says.
The tests are carried out at depths of over 500 m, which are the limit for most modern submarines.
Several submarines are taking part in the exercises, the maneuvers are carried out as planned and will last for several days, the press service added.
In May, it became known that the Russian Defense Ministry will strengthen the Northern Fleet with the newest strategic submarine of the project 955 "Borey". The agency is reviewing plans for the distribution of ships that will enter service in the near future.
