"A detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet, consisting of the flagship of the Order of Nakhimov of the Pacific Fleet, the Guards Missile cruiser Varyag and the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, conducted missile and artillery firing in the Pacific Ocean. In the course of practical actions, the warships jointly repelled the attack of the conventional enemy's air attack means, " he said.
To defeat simulated air targets on the cruiser "Varyag", anti-aircraft missile systems "Osa" were used, fire was also conducted from various artillery installations. In addition, the Wasp missile hit a target simulating a small-sized ship.
According to Voskresensky, the purpose of these exercises was to check the reliability of the ship's weapons in a hot climate.
