The draft agreement between Russia and Sudan on the establishment of a logistics point for the Russian Navy in Sudan has been approved by the Government of the Russian Federation.
In particular, the resolution states that it must be approved and submitted to the President of Russia for submission to the State Duma of the Russian Federation for ratification.
The agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Sudan on the establishment of a logistics point for the Russian Navy in the Republic of Sudan was signed in Khartoum on July 23, 2019 and in Moscow on December 1, 2020.
As previously reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the project on the creation of a naval base was presented by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. It was agreed with the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The naval base in the Red Sea will be created by the forces and means of the Russian side. The maximum number of Russian personnel there should be 300 specialists. No more than four ships of the Russian Navy will be able to stay at the logistics support point. Russia will be able to place temporary military posts in Sudan to protect its naval station outside its territory.
As Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, said earlier in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the logistics support point is being created based on the mutual desire of Russia and Sudan to develop military cooperation aimed at strengthening the defense capabilities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Sudan. The establishment of such a point in the Sudan meets the goals of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
