About 30 years ago, a missile tank could appear in Russia, capable even now of destroying the latest versions of Abrams, Leopards, Challengers and Merkav without any problems.
We are talking about one of the modifications of the promising Object 299, which was created in the early 90s in Leningrad.
It was supposed to be armed with thirty heavy long-range missiles with sniper accuracy, which would launch vertically from protected mines. Judging by the published data, the enemy's armored vehicles were hit in the most vulnerable places - the upper parts of the hull or the tower. There, the thickness of the armor, like that of the same "Abrams", is only 35-70 mm.
The Russian tank was planned to be equipped with sights with television and thermal imaging channels, in addition, it was supposed to have high protection and maneuverability characteristics. The latter was provided by a gas turbine engine with a capacity of 1500 hp.
Unfortunately, due to the financial problems of the 90s, work on this promising topic was discontinued.
