ST. PETERSBURG, June 24-RIA Novosti. The Pacific Fleet of the Russian Federation is working out new ways of fighting during large-scale exercises 4 thousand kilometers from the coast, said the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.
"With the build-up of the fleet's forces, with the arrival of new ships, new methods, forms, new methods of fighting at sea are being worked out. We are not redeveloping this area, we are returning to where we once left, " he said at the opening ceremony of the International Naval Salon.
Yevmenov urged not to be surprised that the exercises are held at a distance of four thousand kilometers from the Russian coast. According to him, the area of the exercises is included in the area of responsibility of the Pacific Fleet.
The exercises are not over yet, they imply "a spatial and temporal scale," the commander-in-chief added.
In the central Pacific Ocean, 2.5 thousand miles (about 4.6 thousand kilometers) southeast of the Kuril Islands, maneuvers are taking place with the participation of more than 20 ships, submarines and support vessels of the Pacific Fleet, as well as more than 20 helicopters and aircraft of the naval aviation of the fleet and the VKS.
