Foreign combat aircraft operated in the area of the Pacific Fleet exercises, Russian ships trained to disguise themselves from it, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Thursday, June 24.
"During the air defense exercise, aerosol camouflage was used to mask ships from foreign aircraft actively operating in the area," the ministry said.
It is noted that the disguise did not allow the foreign military to determine the type of ship and its exact coordinates. This gave additional time to organize the work of air defense (air defense).
The exercises in the Central Pacific Ocean took place from June 7 to 24, approximately 4.6 thousand km southeast of the Kuril Islands. The event was attended by more than 20 ships, submarines and support vessels of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy, including the flagship of the fleet, the Varyag missile cruiser, the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate, the Aldar Tsydenzhapov, Perfect and Loud corvettes.
Before completing the maneuvers, the Russian ships carried out artillery firing on simulated sea and air targets. In particular, the frigate "Marshal Shaposhnikov" and corvettes hit targets with the fire of new 100-mm universal naval artillery installations A-190. At the same time, the cruiser" Varyag " fired from a 130-mm AK-130 artillery installation. All the ships of the group also used six-barreled 30-mm automatic artillery installations AK-630.
On June 10, the former Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Navy, Admiral Viktor Kravchenko, said that the exercises of the Russian fleet in the central Pacific Ocean are unprecedented in scale.
The admiral also stressed that the ships at the disposal of the Pacific Fleet allow us to solve tasks to prevent military threats from the sea.
