These hovercraft landing craft are among the largest platforms of this class in the world
ST. PETERSBURG, June 23. /TASS/. The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) has developed a domestic gas turbine engine (GTE) for the Zubr and Murena air-cushion landing ships. This was announced to TASS during the International Naval Salon (MVMS-2021) by the Deputy General Director-General Designer of the UEC Yuri Shmotin.
"Within the framework of the existing scientific and technical reserve and the results of the ROC on the basic GTE M70FRU for three years, new modifications of engines and units were created, which allow to completely replace the Ukrainian power plants for hovercraft and reversible engines in operation," Shmotin informed.
According to him, according to the results of the work performed, the readiness of mass production of new modifications of the M70FRU gas turbine engine was confirmed. "Several pilot-delivered M70FRU-2 engines have already been manufactured for subsequent use as part of amphibious hovercrafts of the 12061 Murena and 12322 Zubr projects," Shmotin added.
The Murena and Zubr amphibious assault ships are among the largest platforms of this class in the world.
