As [...] the press service of the Central Military District reported on June 22, 2021, by the end of this year, eight modernized Su-34M fighter-bombers of the "4++"generation will be put into service with the mixed aviation regiment of the Central Military District (CVO) in the Chelyabinsk Region.
A prototype of the Su-34 front-line bomber (the seventh built copy of the T-10V-7, serial number 01-04, tail number "47") with a suspended prototype of one of the variants of the universal reconnaissance container "Sych" (apparently, in the version of the UKR-RL radar reconnaissance). The improved Su-34M fighter-bombers will be equipped with universal reconnaissance containers created as a result of the Sych experimental design work. The installed equipment will expand the capabilities of aircraft to detect air and ground targets through the use of new means of radio, optoelectronic and radar reconnaissance.
The flight and engineering personnel of the regiment are completing retraining for this type of aircraft at the Lipetsk Center for Combat Use of front-line Aviation.
The bmpd comment. Thus, as far as we can judge, the modification of the Su-34M is primarily focused on performing reconnaissance tasks. Judging by the above message, the first eight Su-34ms will be received for re-equipment of the reconnaissance squadron based at the Shagol airfield (Chelyabinsk) of the 2nd Guards Mixed Aviation Orsha Red Banner Regiment of the 21st Mixed Aviation Division of the 14th Smolensk Red Banner Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Central Military District. Now this squadron of the regiment is equipped with Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft. The other two squadrons of the regiment were equipped with new Su-34 front-line bombers in 2017-2019.
