Sniper pairs of special forces units of the Southern Military District for the first time began to train in shooting at drones and ground objects from the side of a helicopter barraging in the air. The maximum target range is two thousand meters.
According to the press service of the Southern Military District, the Mi-8AMTSh attack and transport helicopter is used for training special forces soldiers. For its unpretentiousness in maintenance, high firepower, reliability and survivability, army aviation pilots call the machine "Terminator". However, to interact with snipers, helicopter pilots need to show the skills of virtuoso aerial piloting.
The principle of fighting "flying" snipers with unmanned aerial vehicles of the enemy is simple. Radar stations detect drones long before they approach restricted areas or military installations.
Information about the detected target is sent to the remote control of the duty forces, then the coordinates are transmitted to the sniper group, after which the snipers are quickly landed in the Terminator and taken off. "The helicopter crew is required to work out and coordinate with the sniper the moment of hovering and maximum immobility of the vehicle for firing at the target," the military department stressed.
Military experts believe that the reason for the emergence of a new tactic to combat drones was the need to develop a cheap and effective way to combat reconnaissance and attack drones. It is inefficient to use expensive missiles to destroy a cheap drone, and with the help of a combination of "helicopter-sniper" it becomes possible to intercept the drone before it enters the air defense zone of the object.
Helicopter pilots and snipers are trained in the skies of the Rostov Region, Kuban, Stavropol Territory and the republics of the North Caucasus. The new method of shooting is planned to train 400 military personnel.
