The largest airliner from the Boeing 737 Max family — the 737 Max 10-took to the air for the first time. According to Boeing, the aircraft is scheduled to enter service in 2023.

The 737 Max family is the fourth generation of Boeing medium-range passenger aircraft. They consume 20 percent less fuel than the previous generation, thanks to the LEAP-1B turbofan engines and the V-shaped wingtip. The company assembled the first such airliner [...] in 2015, and a year later it made its first flight.

Three years later, the US Federal Aviation Administration banned flying the Boeing 737 Max. This happened after two disasters in which all the people on board were killed. Due to incorrect readings from external sensors, the MCAS system incorrectly adjusted the control of the aircraft, and they went into a dive and crashed.

MCAS is the software that was created to make the new liner look like the previous generations in control. The investigation showed that the pilots did not know about the system and the principles of its operation. After that, Boeing made corrections to the MCAS algorithm and developed the Boeing 737 Max pilot training program. Thanks to this, last year the liners of the family were allowed to return to the sky.

The Boeing 737 Max 10 is the largest of the 737 Max family. It can carry up to 230 passengers. For comparison, the 737 Max 9 is designed for a maximum of 220 people. Even the Max 10 is quieter and more environmentally friendly than the rest of its generation. The developers managed to reduce its carbon emissions by 14 percent, and noise by 50 percent.

The first flight of the 737 Max 10 took place on June 18. It lasted two and a half hours and was considered a success. The plane took off from the airport in the city of Renton, and landed in Seattle. Now, Boeing plans to continue testing the plane and work with regulators on its certification. The aircraft is scheduled to enter service in 2023.

In addition to the 737 Max 10, Boeing is now continuing flight tests of another airliner — the 777X. It is the largest twin-engine liner in the world. Earlier we wrote about his first flight, which was successful.
