10 brigades of railway troops will be involved
Moscow. June 17. INTERFAX-The Russian military plans to begin the main stage of work on the reconstruction of the Baikal-Amur Railway (BAM) in July.
"The main stage of work on the reconstruction of the BAM will begin in July 2021. To do this, 10 brigades of railway troops will be involved, which will build more than 340 kilometers of railway lines, " the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
On June 27, Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov will check the preparations for the construction of the second branch of the BAM, in particular, the construction of block-modular towns for the deployment of the military.
"The military personnel of the railway formations of the Eastern and Central Military Districts are involved in the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure of the eastern section of the Baikal-Amur Railway on the route: Drogoshevsk station-art. Tungala-art. Ogoron - the village of Verkhnezeysk, " the report says.
The transfer of railway troops to BAM began in April.
In March, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that the Russian government expects to reduce the delivery time of goods in containers from the Far East to the western borders of Russia to seven days due to the modernization of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the BAM. At the same time, the head of JSC "Russian Railways" Oleg Belozerov announced plans to attract military personnel to modernize the BAM and Trans-Siberian Railway.
On February 12, the head of the main directorate of the railway troops of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Oleg Kosenkov, said that the military is preparing for the construction of the second branch of the BAM. "For 2021 and subsequent years, the railway troops have been assigned an important key task - to work out issues related to comprehensive preparations for the construction of the second branch of the Baikal-Amur Mainline on the section from the Ulak station to the Fevralsk station with a length of 339 km," Kosenkov said at the time.
