The crew of the Guards submarine "Cheetah" emerged victorious in an underwater duel with another nuclear submarine - tracked down and successfully attacked it with an anti-submarine missile during an exercise in the Barents Sea.
"The shooting was carried out with a practical (training) ammunition from an underwater position on a similar submarine. The performance of the combat exercise was recognized as successful, " TASS informs with reference to the press service of the Northern Fleet.
There are now only three multi-purpose submarines of the same project 971 "Pike-B" as the "Cheetah" in the active composition of the Northern Fleet. And with a high degree of probability, it can be assumed that the conditional rival of the " Cheetah "at this stage of the complex exercises was the crew of the submarine K-157" Boar "from the same 24th" animal " division of multi-purpose submarines.
It is reported that " before the shooting, the crew of the Cheetah worked out the tactics of searching and tracking the submarine of a conditional enemy."
And the area of the exercises with practical shooting was prudently closed to civilian shipping.
On Wednesday, June 16, the Northern Fleet began flight tactical exercises to ensure long-range anti-submarine protection. They involve more than 30 crews and aircraft of anti-submarine and military transport aviation, and the crews of nuclear submarines are involved in providing LTU. As stated in this regard in the official message of the Northern Fleet, "the main task of anti-submarine aviation will be to work with submarines in the naval training ranges of the fleet, their search, detection and conditional destruction."
The day before, a large anti-submarine ship "Vice Admiral Kulakov"worked out a torpedo firing at a submarine of a conditional enemy. In that test exercise, the role of the underwater enemy was assigned to the crew of the diesel-electric submarine "Kaluga".
