Russia is developing a new generation of ammunition designed for the RPG-7 grenade launcher. They are created by the NPO "Basalt", which is part of the concern "Techmash"of the State Corporation Rostec.
According to RIA Novosti with reference to the head of the design bureau "Basalt" Nikolai Sereda, the first such ammunition is expected in 2-3 years. According to him, for the modified RPG-7V2 grenade launcher, shots are created, the effectiveness of which will be 20-30 percent higher than the existing ones. We are talking about the development of a whole set of ammunition.
The advantage of the new shots, in particular, is their increased armor penetration. It is up to 600 millimeters. For comparison, the armor penetration of the first RPG-7 ammunition did not exceed 260 millimeters. The shooting accuracy will also increase. According to the expert, now at the range of a direct shot, which is 150 meters, the target is hit with a spread of 40-50 centimeters. And at a distance of up to a kilometer, the accuracy can exceed the size of the target.
"Therefore, there was a need to increase this accuracy, so that even at a distance of up to a kilometer it was possible, even if not from the first shot, from the second, but, nevertheless, to hit and hit the tank, so that the accuracy was in the area of several meters, up to five, say," - said Nikolai Sereda.
Recall that the hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher RPG-7 was adopted in service exactly 60 years ago. Despite its advanced age, this weapon is still actively used today.
