Canada initially did not get along with the submarines of the Upholder class bought from the UK from the UK, but they can still serve the fleet. Yesterday, June 14, the press service of the Canadian Navy announced the launch of the submarine Corner Brook.

"We are very pleased to mark an important milestone for the Canadian submarine force: today, Her Majesty's submarine (HMCS) CORNER BROOK returns to the water!" - said the press service of the Canadian Navy.

Preparation for the launch of the submarine HMCS Corner Brook:

The HMCS Corner Brook submarine officially entered military service in 2003 and even managed to participate in several exercises. In 2011, the submarine began a black streak — on June 4, due to human error, it hit the seabed at a depth of 45 m. The damage was substantial and required extensive repairs. In 2019, when the submarine still did not leave the dry dock, a fire occurred in it. A year later, an explosion occurred while testing compressed air tanks. The Canadian Navy hopes that the" adventures " of Corner Brook are over, and the submarine will be able to serve the fleet for another nine years.

HMCS Corner Brook is one of four Victoria-class submarines available to the Canadian Navy. They were leased from the UK with the right to buy in 1998. The operation of diesel-electric submarines was accompanied by a series of accidents and accidents. After years of downtime, Canada hopes to keep "at least" three of the four submarines on alert. Two of them are already being tested, and soon they will be joined by Corner Brook.

In the British Navy, the submarine Corner Brook was named Ursula. In total, 12 submarines of the Upholder type were planned to be built for the needs of the British Navy, but due to the end of the Cold War, the series was limited to four units. The displacement of each of them is a little less than 2500 tons, the length is 70 m, the crew consists of 48 people. The submarines are equipped with six 533-mm torpedo tubes.
