The exercise of the Northern Fleet of Russia with the participation of more than 20 ships and submarines has begun. Captain of the 1st rank of the reserve, military expert Vasily Dandykin, spoke about the need for such exercises on Sputnik radio.
The exercise of the Russian Northern Fleet to protect the Arctic borders has begun in the Barents Sea, the press service of the SF reported.
"In the various stages of the exercise, which will take place for several days under the overall leadership of the Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet, Vice Admiral Oleg Golubev, military personnel of coastal formations, more than 20 warships and submarines, about 10 aircraft and helicopters will be involved," the report said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
It is noted that during the exercise, joint actions, interaction with aviation, protection and defense of a detachment of warships from submarines of a conditional enemy and means of air destruction, as well as counteraction to ship groups will be worked out.
The final stage of the exercise will be the conduct of live firing by the crews of the ships, the press service said.
On the air of Sputnik radio, captain of the 1st rank of the reserve, military expert Vasily Dandykin expressed confidence that the Northern Fleet is able to repel any potential threat.
He recalled that recently, NATO countries have shown increased interest in the Arctic region.
The strengthening of the Northern Fleet in recent years has greatly expanded its capabilities, he continued.
