Search and rescue support specialists of the Northern Fleet returned to the main base of the Northern Fleet - the city of Severomorsk after the Russian-Norwegian rescue exercise "Barents-2021".
It took place in the Barents Sea. Representatives of the two countries practiced joint actions there to search for and evacuate conditionally in distress at sea, deliver them to rescue ships and provide medical assistance.
This year, the exercise was held under the overall leadership of the Norwegian side. From the Russian Northern Fleet, it involved a rescue tug ship "Nikolai Chiker", an Il-38 aircraft and a search and rescue helicopter Ka-27. In addition, the forces and resources of the Murmansk branches of the maritime rescue coordination center and the Mi-8 search and rescue helicopter of the border department of the FSB of Russia for the Western Arctic region were involved in the training rescue operation.
The neighbors allocated their ships, vessels, aircraft of the joint rescue coordination center of Northern Norway, the Coast Administration, the Navy Coast Guard, as well as the forces and facilities of the AVINOR air space control centers and service for the Barents-21 exercise.
It all started with the receipt of a distress signal from the area where a certain ship was conditionally wrecked and sank. It was necessary to urgently provide assistance to his crew. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center of Northern Norway has notified the search and rescue support forces of the emergency rescue units of the Russian Northern Fleet and other law enforcement agencies stationed in the region about the incident in the Barents Sea.
From the airfield Severomorsk-1, an IL-38 aircraft of the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Northern Fleet rose into the air and headed for the area of conditional disaster. Its crew found people in the water-they were designated by special dummies-and transmitted the coordinates of their location to the search and rescue forces. The rescue tug ship "Nikolai Chiker" of the Northern Fleet was immediately sent to the area of the accident. Its crew conducted a training rescue operation.
The press service of the Northern Fleet recalled that the international exercises "Barents" are held annually. This is stipulated by the intergovernmental Agreement of Russia and Norway on cooperation in the search for missing persons and Rescue of People in Distress in the Barents Sea" of October 4, 1995. The exercise is led alternately by representatives of the Norwegian search and rescue support forces.
