ST. PETERSBURG, June 3. /TASS/. Roscosmos has something to offer the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), if the United States behaves like gentlemen. This was announced in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2021), the Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.
"If we build relations, I do not rule out the most interesting joint projects with the United States. We have something in our head that we can offer them, " Rogozin said.
According to the director general of Roscosmos, such cooperation is possible if the United States " really behaves like gentlemen, and does not strangle with one hand and stroke with the other." In this case, he stressed, the Russian Federation will turn towards national programs and will do what it can in terms of finances and its understanding of the benefits of space exploration.
Rogozin said that in the coming days he will hold telephone conversations with the new head of NASA, Bill Nelson. "His first statements are encouraging. A person says wise things. I expect to contact him soon. First, we plan to talk on the phone in the next few days, and then I am waiting for his participation in the GLEX, which will be held in St. Petersburg from June 14, and we will talk with him, " he added.
The Director General of Roscosmos stressed that he does not understand how it is possible to build international cooperation when state corporation enterprises, including leading ones that cooperate with the United States, are subject to sanctions, including the Progress Rocket and Space Center and the main scientific Institute of Roscosmos, TsNIIMash, which is run by the MCC.
"Or they want sanctions, tougher relations, well, then what is the ISS? How can we support these joint programs? Or, I am sure, the NASA leadership will confirm that they will fight for the preservation of international space cooperation outside of sanctions and will try to influence decisions that have either already been made or are planned to be made in relation to our enterprises," Rogozin believes.
