ST. PETERSBURG, June 3. /TASS/. Four Angara launch vehicles will be delivered by the end of the year, but not all are planned to be launched by January. This was announced on Thursday in an interview with TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2021), the Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.
"This year we will try to hand over, most likely, four missiles: two heavy and two light. This does not mean that all of them will fly this year, but two will fly: one light and one heavy," Rogozin said.
According to the head of Roscosmos, one heavy rocket will be delivered in June, and a light one - in July. The rest are planned to be completed by the end of the year.
As Rogozin specified, the heavy "Angara-A5" this year should test a new upper stage (RB). "Previously, it flew with the RB" Breeze", and now it is the upper stage DM, its new name is" Perseus", - he explained, adding that the load for the rocket will be chosen by the military. "Our business is to supply the rocket, the upper stage, conduct tests, confirm the technical characteristics," said the general director of Roscosmos.
Rogozin also expressed the opinion that it would be nice to launch a spacecraft on a heavy "Angara", but the specifics of the tests give a "narrow maneuver" for choosing the load. "There are payloads that can be put on this rocket, but we need to check the geostationary orbit (about 36 thousand km above the Earth-approx. TASS). Not every spacecraft can be sent there, " the head of the state corporation said.
"Angara" - a family of Russian launch vehicles from light to heavy class. The new family uses environmentally friendly fuel components. The first two launches of the heavy "Angara" took place on December 23, 2014 and December 14, 2020 from the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
