Three launch vehicles were launched from Russia's new Vostochny cosmodrome in 2021, which is a record. Previously, a maximum of two launches per year were carried out from the cosmodrome.
In 2021, the launches were organized on March 25, April 26, and last Friday, May 28.
On May 28, at 20:38 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1 b rocket launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome, and 10 minutes later, the Fregat upper stage with the vehicles separated from the third stage of the rocket on a suborbital trajectory. The further launch of the satellites into the target circular orbit at a height of 450 km was achieved thanks to two turns on the main engine of the "Frigate". The separation of the vehicles from the upper stage took place in nine stages.
This year, Roscosmos plans to launch about six British OneWeb communications satellites from Vostochny. The contract between Arianespace and OneWeb for 21 launches of Soyuz launch vehicles with Fregat upper stages to launch 672 OneWeb satellites into space was signed in 2015.
The new Russian cosmodrome was launched in 2016. During this time, nine launches were carried out from it, including one emergency launch in 2017.
