Specialists of Uralvagonzavod have started creating the first prototypes of the Shturm robotic complex, RIA Novosti reports, citing sources in the military-industrial complex.
The purpose of these heavy attack vehicles on the chassis of the T-72B3 tank is to fight in conditions of dense urban development. According to the interlocutor of the agency, at the moment, a mobile control center and combat vehicles themselves with various weapons are being assembled. Among other things, they are equipped with a 125-mm smoothbore shortened gun.
This option is designed specifically for actions in the city, where the space for maneuver is very limited, so it is important that the gun does not go much beyond the dimensions of the platform itself. With a short barrel, the initial velocity of the projectile is reduced, but given that the fire will be conducted at short distances, this will not affect the effectiveness of hitting targets.
Also, the combat vehicles of the "Assault" will be equipped with rocket-propelled flamethrowers "Bumblebee", paired 30-millimeter cannons, 220-millimeter thermobaric unguided rockets. It is also assumed that the combat robots will be able to protect themselves from enemy anti-tank weapons.
