The Russian Defense Ministry has published a video of the arrival of three long-range bombers-missile carriers of the Russian Air Force Tu-22M3 at the Khmeimim air base in Syria.
The aircraft with tail numbers 15, 23 and 29 flew from the Russian air base and landed safely at the upgraded Khmeimim airfield. The second runway was reconstructed at the air base with a complete replacement of the pavement, the installation of new lighting and radio equipment. The length of the runway has also been increased, which makes it possible to accept all types of aircraft in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces, the military department noted.
Tu-22M3 landed in Khmeimim for the first time. Their crews will work out training tasks over the Mediterranean Sea. After the implementation of the planned plan, the aircraft will return to the Russian Federation. Earlier, the Tu-22M3 missile carriers were involved in striking targets of international terrorists in Syria. To do this, we had to perform long-distance international flights.
The deployment of bombers in Syria strengthens Russia's position in the Mediterranean, writes The Drive. It will also allow for full-fledged tests of the upgraded version of the Tu-22M3 in combat conditions.
