"The modernization of the Su-34 includes the "suspension" of new weapons, this will allow the aircraft to partially solve the functions of an attack aircraft. The Soviet Su-25 attack aircraft is becoming obsolete, there is no new aircraft, so it was decided to implement these capabilities on the Su-34M, " he said.
In August 2020, the General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation, Yuri Slyusar, announced that the first modernized Su-34M fighter-bombers would be transferred to the Russian Aerospace Forces in 2021.

Work on the modernization of the aircraft to the appearance of the Su-34M was started in 2019. It is planned to equip the aircraft with new weapons and improved avionics.
