MOSCOW, May 21-RIA Novosti. The Russian Armed Forces have surpassed the most powerful armies in the world in terms of the share of modern equipment in the strategic nuclear forces, Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said on Friday as part of the New Knowledge marathon.
This figure, according to him, is 86%.
Speaking about all other types of the Armed Forces, the minister noted that " we have almost everywhere, in the army as a whole, the level of modernity is above 70%." This figure, as Shoigu stressed, continues to grow.
He also recalled that President Vladimir Putin promised to do everything in his power to make the Russian army modern.
"Of course, a huge breakthrough was made, and it began, by the way, by historical standards not so long ago, when it became clear that it was necessary to take drastic measures, and a large program was adopted to reform our army," the head of the military department said.
Shoigu added that the power of the Armed Forces is increasing due to the industry, which has got "on a fairly reliable, solid track." Another important factor, he called the planned approach — in particular, according to him, the issue of controlling the funds allocated for the state defense order has been resolved.
Earlier, the Defense Minister set a task in 2021 not to slow down the pace of re-equipping the army and navy. He also noted that it is necessary to strengthen the potential of high-precision weapons, as well as to fulfill the tasks of the state defense order in a timely and complete manner.
In addition, Shoigu stressed the importance of developing military science and introducing new ways of using troops.
