Modern armored personnel carriers BTR-82A and BTR-82AM with improved combat and driving characteristics are entering service with the Ground Forces. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry.
It is known that the new armored vehicles are intended for the transport of units, their fire support in battle, the destruction of manpower, anti-tank weapons and light armored vehicles of the enemy.
The BTR-82A is equipped with a new combat module, which significantly increased the firepower of the armored personnel carrier. Its armament includes a 2A72 automatic 30 mm cannon and a PKTM machine gun. To enhance the reconnaissance capabilities and firing efficiency, the armored car was equipped with a combined gunner's sight with a stabilized field of view. This made it possible to increase the accuracy of shooting by 2.5 times and to conduct targeted fire on the move and at night.
To improve command control, the BTR-82AM armored personnel carrier is equipped with digital radio stations of the 5th generation R-168, Tron-1 topographic orientation systems, and combined surveillance devices of the TKN-AI commander.
The safety of the crew and its passengers is achieved through the use of protection made of multilayer synthetic material on the internal surfaces of the armored car body. To reduce the negative consequences of explosions under the wheels and body of the BTR-82A, the floors were covered with a mine-proof coating.
In addition, the seats of the crew and troops in the armored personnel carrier were made on a special suspension, which reduces the energy of the explosion.
