The construction of the Borey-A project 995A strategic missile submarines can be continued after the execution of the contract concluded with the Ministry of Defense for the supply of 10 ships.
- The series can be continued. The project proved to be successful, with good prospects for modernization, " Vladimir Pospelov, a member of the board of the Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation and the Marine Board, told RIA Novosti in an interview. The number of additional submarines was not mentioned, but Pospelov noted that the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START-3) limits the number of launchers and warheads.
Borey-class nuclear-powered cruisers are fourth-generation strategic missile submarines armed with Bulava ICBMs. Now the ships of this type are being built according to the improved project "Borey-A", its characteristics are classified. From the first "Boreas", the upgraded version is externally distinguished by smoother contours.
There are four submarines of the project in service: three "Borey" and one "Borey-A". Two cruisers serve in the Northern Fleet, two - in the Pacific, four more ships are being built, and one of them is planned to be transferred to the fleet by the end of 2021. In the same period, the laying of two more submarines is planned. Their transfer to the fleet should take place before the end of 2027.

In 2021, according to Pospelov, the Russian Navy will receive about 40 ships and support vessels. Among them are the strategic submarine "Prince Oleg", the SUBMARINE "Novosibirsk" - the first serial submarine of the project" Yasen-M", - diesel-electric submarines, surface ships of the frigate and corvette classes, small missile ships, patrol boats and support vessels.
