MOSCOW, May 17-RIA Novosti. The Russian Navy will receive about 40 ships and support vessels of various classes this year, Vladimir Pospelov, a member of the board of the Military-Industrial Commission and a member of the Marine Board under the government of the Russian Federation, told RIA Novosti in an interview.
In late December, Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said that the Navy in 2021 will replenish four submarines, six surface ships, 22 boats and support vessels.
He specified that the list includes, among other things, the fourth-generation nuclear-powered strategic submarine "Prince Oleg" of the Borey-A project, the first serial submarine of the Yasen-M project "Novosibirsk". He recalled that the lead multi-purpose nuclear submarine "Kazan"of the same type of project was recently accepted into the Navy.
"It is planned to hand over ships of the frigate and corvette classes, the next serial diesel-electric submarines of the project 636.3, as well as small missile ships, patrol boats and support vessels, will be handed over," Pospelov added.
