At the military parade in Tula on May 9, the BMD-2M with a single combat compartment "Bereg"was first demonstrated.
From the original versions, they differ in the installation of a new, more massive-looking sight with a laser rangefinder, a thermal imaging channel and an automatic target tracking system.
Also on the right side of the tower appeared two launchers of the famous anti-tank missile system "Kornet" with laser guidance, capable of destroying well-armored enemy targets at a distance of 8,000-10,000 meters. The armor penetration of cumulative tandem combat units that overcome dynamic protection reaches 1300 mm.
The former armament, consisting of a 30-mm 2A42 automatic gun and a paired 7.62-mm PKT machine gun, is supplemented by a 30-mm AG-30 grenade launcher, which hits at 1750-2100 meters. The rate of fire is 400 rounds per minute.
BMD-2M have good mobility and maneuverability, they can overcome various water obstacles by swimming. Due to their relatively small mass, they can be transferred by multi-purpose transport helicopters Mi-26.
