NASA reported that the malfunction does not pose a threat to the life of the crew
WASHINGTON, May 13. /TASS/. The Water Processor Assembly (WPA) system installed on the American residential module of the International Space Station (ISS) Tranquility was disconnected from the power supply due to a possible leak. This was announced on Wednesday on its website by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The report notes that the resulting malfunction does not pose a threat to the life of the crew and will be eliminated in the coming days.
"The crew is out of danger and has various spare parts on board [the station] to begin repairs, which are expected to be completed early next week," the statement said. It also states that the ISS has a sufficient supply of water, allowing, if necessary, to meet the needs of the crew "for several months."
The WPA system, the report says, is used to " recycle water from multiple sources into clean drinking water for ISS crew members."
Currently, there are seven crew members on board the International Space Station: Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky and Peter Dubrov, NASA astronauts Mark Vande Hai, Shane Kimbrough and Megan MacArthur, European Space Agency astronaut Tom Pesquet, and JAXA astronaut Akihiko Hoshide.
