The failures with the Altay tank only encourage Turkey to reduce its dependence on imported military technologies. Yesterday, May 3, portal defenceturk.net he reported that the company Aselsan has started testing a new tank fire control system VOLKAN-M.
According to the president of the defense industry, Ismail Demir, testing of the VOLKAN-M began with firing a moving tank at stationary targets. The full test cycle should be completed by the end of the year, after which the new tank fire control system will be used in the M60TM tank, which is currently being tested, as well as other developments.

The VOLKAN-M is also planned to be used in the subsequent modernization of the Leopard II A4 tanks. In Turkey, they intend to use the tower, as well as a number of developments on the Altay tank, to increase the combat capabilities of the Leopards. Earlier, a project called Altay kuleli Leopard 2A4 tankı ("Leopard 2A4 tank with Altay tower") was presented.
