Moscow. April 28. INTERFAX-Two new motorized rifle regiments have been created in the Kaliningrad region, it follows from the message of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation.
"In the city of Gusev, Kaliningrad region, the commander of the Baltic Fleet, Admiral Alexander Nosatov, presented the commanders of the newly formed motorized rifle regiments of the Army Corps of the Fleet with the historical banners of the 275th and 280th rifle regiments, with which the soldiers of the famous units went through the entire Great Patriotic War," the press service of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Federation reported on Wednesday.
Probably, we are talking about two new regiments of the motorized rifle division. The plans for its formation in the Kaliningrad region were previously reported by the Russian military.
In December 2020, the commander of the Baltic Fleet said that the formation of a new motorized rifle division in the Kaliningrad region was a response to the build-up of NATO forces near the Russian borders.
"First of all, this is due to the build - up of NATO troops in the immediate vicinity of the land borders of the Kaliningrad region, on the territory of which the main forces of the Baltic Fleet are stationed, "Nosatov said in an interview with the Russian Defense Ministry's Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.
"Today, one armored, several multinational battalion-tactical groups, as well as other strike units and units are drawn up to the borders of the Russian exclave. In response to this threat, the leadership of the Armed Forces is forced to take retaliatory measures. One of them was the formation of a full-fledged motorized rifle division, which became part of the Army Corps of the Baltic Fleet," the commander said.
According to him, the new division includes motorized rifle, artillery and separate tank regiments.
In recent years, Russia has strengthened its military infrastructure in the western direction, in particular, in the Kaliningrad region.
In 2016, it became known that the 11th Army Corps was formed as part of the Baltic Fleet in the Kaliningrad Region.
In May 2018, it was reported about the rearmament of the missile brigade in the city of Chernyakhovsk from Tochki-U to Iskander-M operational-tactical complexes.
In the Kaliningrad region, the Russian military has modern coastal missile systems " Bal " and "Bastion", as well as long-range air defense systems S-400 "Triumph" (concern "Almaz-Antey").
