TSAMTO, April 27. According to the Global Times, Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 23 took part in the ceremony of commissioning of the PLA Navy destroyer URO (105) "Dalian" class "Type-055" (according to the NATO classification "Renhai" / Renhai).
It is assumed that the fourth-generation destroyers "Type-055" will be used to escort aircraft carriers or as the flagship of the strike group. The ship is designed to provide air defense, anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare.
As reported by TSAMTO, the Type-055 class destroyers are being built by two enterprises: Jiangnan Changxingdao and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry.
The first and second ships were built at Jiangnan Shipyard Group's Changxing Island facility in Shanghai. There, in November 2017, work began on the construction of the fifth ship. The construction of the third and fourth Type-055 destroyers began at the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC) in late 2016. They were launched simultaneously on 3 July 2018.
The lead destroyer of the series, (101) "Nanchang", entered the PLA Navy on January 12, 2020, the second ship of the series, (102)" Lhasa " (Lhasa), – in early 2021. These ships are part of the fleet of the Northern Zone of the PLA Combat Command. "Dalian" – the first destroyer "Type-055", adopted by the fleet of the Southern zone of combat Command.
As of the end of 2020, 8 ships of the Type-055 class were launched (four by each enterprise). It is expected that they will be put into service within 1-2 years.
The Type-055-class URO destroyer is a warship 180 m long, 22 m wide, 6.6 m draught, and about 13,000 tons displacement. The difference between the ships of the Type-055 class and the previously built Type-052D destroyers is the equipment of the main power plant of the COGAG (Combined Gas and Gas Turbine) type instead of CODOG (Combined Diesel or Gas Turbine) with four GC-280 GTE with a capacity of 28 MW. The maximum speed is estimated at 30 knots.
According to media reports, the destroyer is equipped with 130-mm H/PJ-38 AU, 64-container and 48-container vertical launchers that provide the ability to launch HHQ-9 missiles (200 km range), YJ-18A anti-ship cruise missiles, CJ-10 cruise missiles for hitting ground targets and Yu-8A anti-submarine missiles. The destroyer is equipped with a Type-346 Dragon Eye phased array radar and several other radars and sensors. The ship can accommodate two Z-20 helicopters in the hangar.
