TSAMTO, April 26. The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, on April 23 in Severomorsk summed up the results of the interspecific command and staff exercise (KShU), which took place under his leadership in the Northern Fleet.
"A distinctive feature of the interspecific KShU is the fact that it was carried out according to the plan of the Main Command of the Navy specifically in the Northern Fleet. This differentiated practice (conducting exercises with a specific fleet under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy) has been resumed for the first time since 2010 and will continue further. We will conduct similar exercises annually on each of the fleets. This will allow us to fully and very specifically assess both the actions of the fleet commands and the actions of the forces of each of the fleets and the Caspian Flotilla in their operational area of responsibility, " Admiral Nikolai Evmenov said at the headquarters of the Northern Fleet at the summing up of the interspecific command and staff exercise.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Navy also added that, in essence, the interspecific KShU of the Northern Fleet was conducted in accordance with the existing system of staff training and completed a set of measures for operational and combat training of the fleet's military command bodies during the winter training period.
"The main focus of the exercise was on ensuring the security of the state's economic activities in the Arctic zone, conducting rescue operations and providing assistance at sea in this region, as well as resolving possible crisis situations in the event of their occurrence, protecting and defending maritime communications," Admiral Nikolai Evmenov said.
During the exercise, the group of the Main Command of the Navy under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy checked the level of readiness of the military authorities of the Northern Fleet in planning and conducting actions to resolve crisis situations in the Arctic Ocean area and manage interspecific groups in the framework of solving these tasks.
The exercise involved several thousand military personnel, about 30 surface ships, submarines and boats, and about 40 aircraft.
"During the interspecific KShU, more than 25 tactical exercises with forces and troops were conducted in the Northern Fleet. More than 150 combat exercises were also performed. The objectives of the exercise have been achieved, " Admiral Nikolai Evmenov said.

At the first stages of the exercise, the military authorities of the Northern Fleet, associations and formations, as well as individual military units of the fleet, were put on high alert. As part of the practical action plan, the deployment of nuclear submarines and naval forces of the Northern Fleet in the sea has been worked out, and units of the army corps have moved to the areas of concentration. The Army of the Air Force and Air Defense has worked out the transfer of forces to operational-based airfields in the Arctic and the build-up of the air defense system in the Arctic direction.
At various stages of the interspecific exercise, nuclear and diesel submarines, ships of the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous forces and formations of missile ships, support vessels, units of the army corps, aircraft, military and special equipment of the Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Northern Fleet were involved, according to the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
