Equipped with "Zircons" and "Calibers", the ship should return to the fleet in 2022

INTERFAX-Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov, as part of a working trip to the Northern Fleet, visited the Sevmash enterprise in Severodvinsk, where he checked the progress of repairs and modernization of the Admiral Nakhimov heavy nuclear missile cruiser (TARKR).
"The work on the repair and modernization of such a large and unique cruiser in its displacement belongs to the category of increased complexity, but I am sure that the shipbuilders of Sevmash will cope with the task," the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry quotes Evmenov.
According to the Commander-in-Chief, new technological and innovative solutions are being introduced in the process of modernization of the Admiral Nakhimov TARKR.
"This applies to weapons, life support systems and radio-technical weapons systems. There is no doubt that the Navy will receive the most powerful ship in its armament and technical means. On all issues of repair and modernization of the cruiser, the Main Command of the Navy is constantly cooperating with the United Shipbuilding Corporation and, in particular, with Sevmash, Evmenov said.
Accompanied by the General Director of "Sevmash" Mikhail Budnichenko, representatives of the relevant departments of the Main Command of the Navy, representatives of the plant, the commander-in-chief inspected the progress of work on the TARKR "Admiral Nakhimov", and also discussed with shipbuilders the entire range of issues on the modernization of the cruiser, its equipment, informs the Ministry of Defense.
Earlier it was reported that the cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" is undergoing a deep modernization. The ship is due to return to the Russian Navy at the end of 2022, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said in December 2020.
The Defense Ministry said that the Admiral Nakhimov will become the most modern cruiser of the Russian Navy. It, in particular, will be armed with "Zircons" (a new Russian hypersonic missile that is being tested, developed by the corporation " Tactical Missile Weapons") and "Calibres" (a family of cruise missiles developed by the OKB "Novator", JSC "Concern of East Kazakhstan Region "Almaz-Antey").
"Admiral Nakhimov" refers to the cruisers of the project 1144 "Orlan". In total, four cruisers of this class were built for the Navy. One of them - the flagship of the Northern Fleet "Peter the Great" - is in a combat-ready state. It was reported that the modernization of the "Peter the Great" will begin after the return to the combat structure of the "Admiral Nakhimov".
