MOSCOW, 20 Apr-RIA Novosti. The Northern Fleet will receive almost 250 units of modern weapons in 2021, and its share in the fleet will reach 62.3% by the end of the year, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"Speaking about the Northern Fleet, I would like to emphasize that today it is able to ensure the protection of national interests and the military security of the state in the Arctic. The total staffing of the fleet with military personnel under the contract is 97%, by the end of the year their number will increase to 99.2%," Shoigu said at a meeting of the board of the Ministry.
According to him, the Northern Fleet continues to be re-equipped with new types of weapons.
"This year, 245 units of modern weapons should be delivered, as a result, by the end of the year, its share will reach 62.3%," Shoigu explained.
He noted that the implementation of the plans of the Northern Fleet will be considered at the current meeting of the board as part of the implementation of the May decrees of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his instructions following the meetings in Sochi.
