In the repair battalion of the combined arms association of the Eastern Military District, stationed in the Republic of Buryatia, military craftsmen are completing work on the restoration of the legendary heavy tank of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) "Joseph Stalin" (IS-2). The masters plan to put the tank on the move to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War.
The engine is installed in its normal place and its first successful start is made. The military personnel will check the operation of the engine under various loads. The work on the replacement of all hoses and pipes has been completed, the electrics have been replaced, and the work of all mechanisms, controls and units has been adjusted.
One of the most difficult elements during the restoration of the legendary IS-2 heavy tank was the installation of a 9-ton tank turret in its regular place. Thanks to many years of experience and well-coordinated actions of the military personnel, the tower was installed in a short time with the help of a special crane on an armored repair and evacuation vehicle (BRAM-1).
The last checks of the steering system, brake system, turret rotation mechanism, communications, wiring and other components and mechanisms of the IS-2 tank are now being completed. Heavy tank IS-2 for many years decorated a unique collection of rare weapons and military equipment of the Great Patriotic War and the Afghan war in the military town of Sosnovy Bor.
Recall that the IS-2 will be the second restored tank of the Second World War in the Republic of Buryatia. The first legendary T-34 tank was restored by the military masters of the repair battalion for the 75th anniversary of the Victory in 2019, he led a mechanized column of equipment at a military parade in Ulan-Ude.
On May 9, to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War over the Nazi invaders, the heavy tank "Joseph Stalin" IS-2, the tank T-34 and the BM-13 "Katyusha" will pass through the main square of the capital of Buryatia, leading the mechanized column of the military parade of the Ulan-Ude garrison, the press service of the VVO reports.
