Recall that this project is 22120 (code " Blizzard") It was developed by LLC "PKB "Petrobalt" as a large customs vessel on the order of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation (FCS of the Russian Federation) on the order of 2005. After the refusal of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation in 2009 from this project, funding for the project continued from the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, and initially the units of the project 22120 were classified in the Border Service as border patrol vessels( PPS), and since 2018 are classified as border patrol ships (PPK) of the 2nd rank. In total, thus, to date, six ships of this type have been built for the Border Service of the FSB of Russia.

The head of the patrol ship of the project 22120 with serial number 050 was laid by JSC "Sea plant "Diamond" (currently - Vasileostrovskaya Playground PJSC Almaz) initially, the Federal customs service of the Russian Federation on 25 June 2006, and after completion for a new customer joined the Coast guard of the Border service of the FSB of Russia on 29 April 2011 as the SS-581. The ship became part of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia on July 5, 2013, in September of the same year also moving to Nevelsk on Sakhalin. The ship was for some time designated asPPP-825, then again as PS-825, and since September 2018 has been called"Rear Admiral Dianov."

At the end of 2016, SF Almaz signed a contract with the FSB of Russia for the construction of another patrol vessel (ship) of project 22120 with the factory number 052, the initial (maximum) price of the contract was 1.76364437 billion rubles 44 kopecks. The laying of the patrol vessel "Kamchatka" (factory number 052) under this contract was made at the SF "Almaz" on May 24, 2017, the ship "Kamchatka" was launched on May 17, 2018 and became part of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia on November 23, 2018.

In February 2018, the SF Almaz signed a new contract with the Russian Federal Security Service for the construction of two more border patrol ships of the project 22120 with factory numbers 053 and 054, with a delivery date of both in 2019. The laying ceremony of both the Trans-Baikal (factory number 053) and Taimyr (factory number 054) ships under this contract was performed at the plant on May 30, 2018. The launch of the ship "Zabaikalie" was made at the end of April 2019, and in July 2019, the ship became part of the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia, although there were no official reports about this. In August-September 2019, the Kamchatka and Zabaikalie PPC made a joint transition from the Baltic to the North and from there by the Northern Sea Route to the permanent base in Kamchatka, where they arrived on October 1, 2019. "Taimyr" (factory number 054) was launched on the SF "Almaz" in early July 2019, but it was put into operation only a year later, on July 10, 2020. On September 25, 2020, the Taimyr arrived at its permanent base in Kamchatka.
