TSAMTO, April 16. The Polish company Zaklady Mechaniczne "BUMAR-LABEDY" reported on April 12 that in the first quarter of 2021, it transferred 15 T-72 tanks to the troops, which were repaired and modernized.

These vehicles entered service with the 19th Mechanized Brigade (Lublin) and the 20th Mechanized Brigade (Bartoszyce).

As planned, four more tanks will be transferred to the Polish Armed Forces in April. At the same time, according to Polish media reports, all these tanks were supposed to be delivered in 2020.

As reported by TSAMTO, in July 2019, a consortium formed by the Polish Weapons Group (PGZ – Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa), Zaklady Mechaniczne "BUMAR-LABEDY" and the company Wojskowe Zaklady Motoryzacyjne S. A. (Poznan), signed a contract with the 1st regional logistics Base (Valch) for the repair and modernization of T-72M1 tanks of the Polish Armed Forces to the T-72 version.72M1R. The total cost of the order is 1.75 billion rubles. zloty. The work should be completed during 2019-2025. BUMAR-LABEDY acts as the technical integrator of the project.

As reported Altair.com.pl It is assumed that of the 318 T-72 tanks in storage, 230 units will undergo major repairs and modernization. The contract is of a framework nature. This means that every year, depending on the funds allocated from the budget of the Polish Ministry of Defense, a certain number of tanks will be repaired and modernized.

In the process of modernization, in particular, it is planned to replace the main outdated optical devices and sights. For example, the tanks will receive the thermal sight of the gunner PCT-72, passive day/night observation device of the tank commander POD-72 Liswarta. The driver's seat will be equipped with a PNK-72 Radomka night vision device. The vehicles must also be equipped with modern navigation tools, digital communication and control systems.

The first 8 repaired and modernized T-72 tanks were delivered to the troops at the end of 2019. Another 46 cars were planned to be repaired in 2020, but these plans were negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
