The development of water supply systems for the complex on the surface of the Moon and the interplanetary space station can begin in 2022.
In Russia, they are increasingly talking about the possibility of building a new orbital station, as well as about the beginning of active development of the Earth's satellite. Today, RIA Novosti announced the start date for the development of life support systems, without which the implementation of these projects is impossible.
As the agency noted with reference to the proposal of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Research and Design Institute of Chemical Engineering, the start of development can take place in 2022.
NIIHIMMASH specializes in closed life support systems for space technology. Currently, the Russian segment of the ISS has several developments of the institute, including the SRV-K2M system for the regeneration of water from atmospheric moisture condensate, as well as the Electron-VM system for the electrolysis production of oxygen.
From 2022 to 2025, Niihimmash plans to create water supply systems, which in the future can receive a lunar orbital station, a lunar landing complex and a lunar base, as well as an interplanetary space station. At this stage, you are supposed to create hardware layouts.

They want to finally decide the fate of the projects at the end of the month: a wide range of specialists, including representatives of the rocket and space industry, will be involved to determine the feasibility.
Recall that recently it became known about the approval by the Russian authorities of the start of construction of the new ROSS space station. The project may start soon: this will avoid a large gap between the planned abandonment of the Russian segment of the ISS and the commissioning of a new station.
It is not known for certain what exactly it will be (and whether it will be). According to the information provided last year, we are talking about a conditional modernized analogue of the Soviet"World". The new station should include five modules: the main, production, support module, a platform for servicing spacecraft and a commercial module. As a basis for them, they want to use a promising module for the ISS-NEM or NEM-1.
The project of the Russian-Chinese lunar station looks more ambitious . So far, even less is known about it than about the ROSS space station. Probably, now there is not even an understanding of whether it will be in the orbit of the Moon or on the surface of the satellite.
