Now Russia is creating the most powerful icebreaker fleet in the world. This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society on April 14.
"Russia is building the world's most powerful icebreaker fleet, including such giants as the Leader ,which no one has ever built before," Putin said.
Putin noted that the issue of making the movement along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) year-round is also being discussed.
Also on Tuesday, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation adopted a law on long-term contracts for the provision of services using ships of the nuclear icebreaker fleet.
With its help, the customer and the contractor of icebreaking services can conclude long-term contracts, provided that they are systematically provided. The contract will set out the terms, the list of services, the payment procedure, the obligations of the parties and the responsibility for non-compliance with the provisions of the contract.
The law is aimed at updating the legal regulation in the field of icebreaking wiring, as well as creating conditions for attracting long-term debt financing for the construction of serial universal nuclear icebreakers of project 22220.
Earlier, on March 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large for International cooperation in the Arctic, Nikolai Korchunov, said that the situation in the Suez Canal, where a container ship blocked the way to other ships, makes us think about other supply options, for example, the use of SPM.
He noted that now, in the context of increasing volumes of sea transport, it is necessary to develop a solution that would not disrupt the work of global supply chains.
