Hong Kong. April 11. INTERFAX-The intelligence services of the United States and South Korea believe that the DPRK has completed the construction of a new submarine weighing 3 thousand tons, the Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday, citing its sources.
"The intelligence leaders of South Korea and the United States have concluded that North Korea has already finished building a 3,000-ton submarine, which became known in July 2019, "Yonhap quoted the sources as saying.
"The leaders believe that North Korea is exploring the appropriate time to introduce a submarine to create a strategic effect, including to maximize pressure on the United States," the sources said.
Earlier in April, the analytical center for strategic and International studies Beyond Parallel reported that the DPRK may be preparing to test a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM). The suggestion came as North Korea moved a submerged missile test stand to a shipyard on its east coast.
