Washington. April 8. Washington is considering sending warships to the Black Sea in the coming weeks amid the increased presence of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, a Pentagon official told CNN on Thursday.
In accordance with the Montreux Convention, the United States must notify Turkey in 14 days of the intention of passing ships through the Dardanelles and Bosphorus Straits.
However, the TV channel notes, it is still unclear whether Washington has sent a corresponding notification to Ankara.
According to the interlocutor of the TV channel, so far the United States does not regard the concentration of Russian forces as readiness for offensive actions, but expressed readiness to respond if anything changes.
