According to the Ministry of Defense, MiG-31BM aircraft regularly conduct training flights over the Russian Arctic
MOSCOW, April 8. /TASS/. The MiG-31BM interceptor fighters have received the latest navigation system, which allows them to successfully solve tasks in the Arctic region. This was reported to TASS in the press service of the United Aircraft Corporation of the state corporation "Rostec".
"In the course of work on the MiG-31BM, a new satellite navigation system is being installed. It allows you to solve the problems of aircraft navigation anywhere in the world, including the Arctic region, " the corporation said.
The operation of satellite navigation in the Arctic has a number of features. In this region, it remains inaccurate and complex, first, because of the orbital position of spacecraft, which in northern latitudes never pass directly overhead. Secondly, there is a lot of ionospheric activity in the Arctic region, which causes a lot of problems with electronics. This can lead to timing errors, and then to errors in positioning calculations.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, MiG-31BM aircraft regularly conduct training flights over the Russian Arctic. In January 2021, the crews of the MiG-31BM long-range interceptor fighters of the Northern Fleet took up experimental combat duty in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.
