"Yes, it will be delivered this year," Leonov said, answering a question from Interfax.
At the end of January, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said that in December 2020, two more missiles with Avangard hypersonic cruise blocks were put on combat duty.
"In 2020, the rearmament of the 13th Missile Division of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) continued with the latest Avangard strategic missile system. In December, two more missiles with hypersonic cruise blocks were put on combat duty," Krivoruchko said on January 29 at a Single Day of military acceptance on Friday.
He stressed that the Defense Ministry pays special attention to the development and supply of high-precision and hypersonic weapons.
In December 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the first missile regiment armed with "Avangards"was put on combat duty near Orenburg.
Avangard is a new Russian strategic missile system with a hypersonic gliding winged combat unit that develops a speed of about Mach 27 (Mach - the speed of sound). Developed in the Moscow region NPO Mashinostroyeniya (Reutov, part of the corporation "Tactical Missile Weapons"). According to the Russian military, "Avangard" will be an effective response to the deployment of the American missile defense system.
