The crews of two diesel-electric submarines of the Baltic Fleet played a duel situation off the coast of the Kaliningrad region.
The submariners trained in attacks and counterattacks of the submarine of a simulated enemy with the two-way use of weapons and sonar equipment, the information support department of the press service of the Baltic Fleet of the Far Eastern Military District reported.
The role of the" enemy "submarine was performed by the "Volkhov" DAPL. The submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" discovered it, secretly entered the area of the exercise, took a favorable position for shooting and conditionally attacked the "enemy" submarine with a torpedo. Then she conducted a post-salvo maneuver, avoiding a retaliatory attack.
"Volkhov" also, maneuvering, evaded the "torpedo" and counterattacked. The conditions of the dueling situation were modeled to equalize the chances of both submarines in an underwater duel. The command assessed the actions of the crews as successful and professional.
The underwater sea battle took place within the framework of the course task L-2 - this is part of the program for preparing the submarine to perform tasks for its intended purpose with the performance of combat exercises in various operational and tactical situations.
The day before, during the testing of the first stages of the L-2, the crew of the Volkhov worked out a dive to a depth of 190 meters in the sea ranges of the Baltic Fleet. During the deep-sea dive, the submariners checked the operation of all the systems and mechanisms of the boat, worked out the algorithm of actions when controlling the ship at great depths and with various methods of surfacing.

The Volkhov and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky submarines are Russian diesel-electric submarines of the Varshavyanka project. The 636.3 series of submarines is significantly different from the previous Varshavyanok: they have an updated inertial navigation system, the latest model of BIUS and modern missile and torpedo weapons. One of the main advantages of these submarines is the low noise level.
