The frigate "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov", which is part of the division of missile ships of the Northern Fleet, fired the main missile system at a coastal target on Novaya Zemlya, the press service of the fleet reported.
It is specified that the target was successfully hit by the Onyx cruise missile at a distance of more than 300 kilometers from the launch point.
The day before, it was reported that the "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" went to the Barents Sea to perform planned combat training tasks.
Military expert, captain of the 1st rank of the reserve Vasily Dandykin on the air of Sputnik radio noted that this ship of the far ocean zone, which is the lead frigate of the project 22350, is capable of hitting the most distant targets ‒ ground, surface and others.
The Project 22350 ships have reliable multi-level protection against any attack, he added.
The expert noted that the Russian Navy has already introduced another ship of the project 22350 - "Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov", and a whole series of such ships is being built. In the future, they may become part of not only the Northern, but also other fleets of the Russian Navy, suggested Vasily Dandykin.
