Pilots of the Russian Knights aerobatic team conducted combat firing on Su-35S aircraft for the first time during scheduled flights together with the crews of the Strizhi aerobatic team. The pilots took off from the Kubinka airfield and used air-to-air missiles at the Ladoga training ground. "Previously, one of the Su-35S aircraft dropped a parachute target that imitated a thermal target, for example, the engine of a simulated enemy aircraft," the ministry explained.
The Russian Defense Ministry noted that the crews of the aerobatic teams carried out missile launches at an air target at an altitude of about 9 thousand meters. m and at a speed of about 700 km/h.
"The pilots of the Swifts also practiced landing at an operational airfield in the Republic of Karelia," the ministry said.
Aircraft
The flights were carried out on MiG-29, Su-30SM, and Su-35S aircraft. More than 10 crews of the I. N. Kozhedub Aviation Technology Display Center took part in the training.
In July 2020, it was reported that the Russian Knights aerobatic team had completed rearmament with the Su-35S. Four new aircraft were relocated from the manufacturer's factory to the air group's deployment point in Kubinka.
For the first time, Su-35S joined the group in November 2019. In 2016, Su-30SM fighters entered service.
