Moscow. March 24. INTERFAX-The crew of the frigate "Admiral Gorshkov" this year will be involved in the testing of hypersonic weapons, the press service of the Northern Fleet (SF) reported on Wednesday.
"This year, the crew of the frigate will also be involved in testing hypersonic weapons," the report says.
At the end of last year, the frigate participated in the tests of the hypersonic cruise missile "Zircon", in which it performed several successful firings.
Currently, according to the fleet, the frigate went on exercises in the Barents Sea.
"The crew of the ship will work out a number of elements of the combat training course and will fire rocket and artillery weapons at sea targets," the report says.
After performing combat exercises in the Barents Sea, the frigate will return to the main base point - Severomorsk, the fleet said.
The Admiral Gorshkov frigate is one of the most modern ships of the Northern Fleet. It was built at the Severnaya Verf Shipyard in St. Petersburg and was commissioned into the fleet in July 2018.
Project 22350 frigates are multifunctional warships capable of effectively fighting surface, air and underwater enemies, as well as striking land and coastal targets at a distance of more than 1.5 thousand km.
In February 2019, in a message to the Federal Assembly, Putin said that the Zircon missile would be capable of hitting ground and surface targets at a range of more than 1 thousand kilometers at a speed of about Mach 9.
On December 2, 2019, the Russian President said that the strengthening of the capabilities of the Russian Navy in the coming years largely depends on the entry into the combat composition of frigates and submarines, modified for the use of "Zircons".
In December 2019, Putin said that according to the plan, work is underway on a hypersonic missile "Zircon" not only sea-based, but also land-based.
