Earlier, the commander-in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, said that the service life of the most numerous multi-purpose nuclear submarines in the Russian fleet, projects 949A and 971, will be doubled, they will be re-equipped.
Kalibr cruise missiles are designed to hit targets on the ground, while Onyx missiles are anti-ship missiles. Hypersonic missiles "Zircon" are currently undergoing testing. Their speed-up to Mach 8.5 (more than 10 thousand kilometers per hour), range – up to 500 kilometers.
"The multi-purpose nuclear submarines of projects 971 and 949A after modernization will be armed with "Calibers"," Onyx "and"Zircons". The containers for these missiles are universal, " the source said.
Now these submarines are routinely armed with mine-torpedo weapons.
As for the newest submarines of the project 885 "Ash", regular carriers of "Caliber" and "Onyx", they will also be pre-equipped with "Zircons", the source said.
Non-nuclear submarines of project 971 were built from 1976 to 1992, project 949A-from 1985 to 1996.
Project 885 submarines are being built now. The lead boat "Severodvinsk" was put into service in 2010. The first serial submarine "Kazan" of the project 885A will enter the fleet in 2021. In total, ten boats of this project should be built.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko reported that the Zircon hypersonic missiles are designed to arm nuclear submarines of projects 885, 885M, 949AM, surface ships of projects 22350, 23560, as well as rearm the cruiser of Project 1144.2 "Admiral Nakhimov".
