Sevastopol. March 18. INTERFAX-The water intake on the Belbek River and the automated water pipeline from the Kadykovsky quarry, which was built by the Russian Defense Ministry, will be able to deliver about 65 thousand cubic meters of water to Sevastopol per day, Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov said.

On Thursday, the water intake on the Belbek River, which will solve the problem of water shortage in Sevastopol, was officially put into operation.

"Taking into account the productivity of the new water intake, about 65 thousand cubic meters of water per day will be delivered to Sevastopol daily," Ivanov said during the meeting.

He specified that 15 thousand cubic meters will be supplied from the Kadykovsky quarry, the creation of a water transfer system from which was completed in December, another 50 thousand cubic meters (about half of the daily consumption rate in Sevastopol) will be received at the expense of a new water intake on the Belbek River.

Specialists of the Russian Defense Ministry have created a hydrotechnical complex in the Crimea to provide water to the residents of Sevastopol in 115 days. More than 740 people and 280 pieces of equipment participated in the construction, the work was carried out in three shifts. The water intake was built in the lower reaches of the Belbek River 8 km before the river's confluence with the Black Sea. The water flows through the equipped channel into the overflow dam and then into the accumulating bucket. After passing the fish protection system, the water goes to the pumping station of the first lift. In order to save money, the water used to wash the filters is re-cleaned at the cleaning station and returned back.

"The complex includes a storage pool with a capacity of 150 thousand cubic meters, a storage pool, a dam, a hose for delivering water to the Dnieper water pipeline, three pumping stations, as well as a complex of water supply and local treatment facilities, including equipment for cleaning flushing water, storm water and domestic wastewater with accumulating underground reservoirs," Ivanov said, noting that the management of hydraulic processes is automated and is conducted from the control panel.
