The crews of the MiG-31BM fighters of the naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet worked out the interception of a conditional border intruder, in the role of which the MiG-31 also acted. The video of the interception was published by the Russian Defense Ministry on Wednesday, March 10.
According to the ministry, the plane was supposed to enter Russian airspace at supersonic speed at an altitude of about 20 km. In addition, in case of detection, he had to escape from prosecution.
A MiG-31BM was raised to intercept the simulated enemy, which was detected by the aircraft. The report also added that after capturing the target, the pilots made electronic launches of long-range air-to-air missiles at it.
Earlier on March 9, it was reported that Russian MiG-31 fighters became hunters for ballistic missiles. Now the crews will regularly practice intercepting warheads in exercises.
As sources in the Defense Ministry told Izvestia, already last year, new exercises for intercepting targets-imitators of ballistic missiles were included in the combat training program as an experiment. As a result of the work, it was decided to extend the practice to all units of the MiG-31 interceptors.
